At the ceremony, YAB Dato Seri Dr. Mahathir was presented with a slab of granite which was taken from the bottom of the Causeway. The granite, which was 80 years old was a symbolic memento of the nostalgic "Tambak Johor" which was built in 1920.
The construction of the 1.4 kilometer bridge is part of the Gerbang Selatan Bersepadu project, undertaken by Gerbang Perdana Sdn Bhd, the Contractor for the project. The road bridge is expected to be completed in 2005. |
