  On 16 May 2006 , The Minister of Works Malaysia, YB Dato' Seri S. Samy Vellu made a working visit to the Gerbang Selatan Bersepadu (GSB) project site at Johor Bahru. His arrival at the Police Contingent Head Quarters, Johor was received by Y.Bhg. Dato' Ir. Hj. Mohamad Razali bin Othman, Deputy Director General III of Public Works Department (PWD), Y.Bhg. Dato' Ir. Hj. Abu Bakar, Director of PWD Johor, Ir. Ng Ah Kow, Construction Director of JKR-GSB, Ir. Dr. Ismail bin Mohamed Taib, Senior Assistant Director PWD (Bridge), YB Dato' Yahya A. Jalil, Managing Director of Gerbang Perdana Sdn Bhd (GPSB), YB Dato' Palanivel a/l K. Govindasamy, Deputy Minister of Women & Family Development, YB Dato' K.S. Balakrishnan, Chairman, MIC Johor and members of MIC Johor.

On arrival at JB Office, YB Dato' Seri and entourage were greeted by Ir. Loh Yem Phoi, General Manager (Construction), JKR-GSB, Tn. Hj. Azahar Abdul Aziz, Finance Director of GPSB, Tn Hj Rostam Razali, Operations Director of GPSB, Senior Management Staff of JKR-GSB and GPSB.

His visit commenced at 10.30a.m. with a closed door discussion over breakfast with YBhg Dato' Ir. Hj. Mohamad Razali bin Othman, Ir. Dr. Ismail bin Mohamed Taib, Ir. Ng Ah Kow, YB Dato' Yahya A. Jalil and Senior Management Staff of GPSB.

Thereafter, the GSB Project Progress briefing and visual presentation was conducted by Ir. Ng Ah Kow. The one-hour presentation included current work progress, proposed permanent link connecting the new CIQ and the Causeway, improvement works to the culverts at the Causeway and consequences of bridge contract termination.

A press conference (PC) was held immediately after YB Dato' Seri and the entourage viewed the project photographs at the exhibition hall. At the PC, YB Dato' Seri explained to the media the best option of the permanent link which is based on the most practical design to ease traffic congestion and no disruption to the operation of the existing CIQ at Tg. Puteri while construction work is in progress. GPSB has been given a month to submit the design which will need Cabinet's approval.

After a group photography session, the entourage was taken for a tour of the permanent link site near the existing lorry access ramp at Tg. Puteri CIQ.

A vegetarian lunch was served for all guests after the site visit. The working visit ended at 2.15p.m. where YB Dato' Seri and his entourage adjourned for the Johor MIC Convention.
