Being a national project of a premier gateway into mainland Asia, the GSB Project warrants a capable and experienced organisation to successfully execute and complete it. The following is a brief description of the components within the GSB Project.
INTEGRATED CIQ COMPLEX (BANGUNAN SULTAN ISKANDAR & JB SENTRAL)
This integrated complex is being constructed on the land adjoining the existing Johor Bahru Railway Station. The project will enable international traffic to be channeled directly from the Causeway to the main roads leading to the respective destinations. The Integrated CIQ Complex will comprise two (2) core buildings, namely the CIQ Complex (Bangunan Sultan Iskandar) and the JB Sentral. The latter comprises the city railway and public transit stations.
These core buildings are connected to each other via a sky bridge to ensure ease and efficiency in movement of commuters.
The CIQ complex (Bangunan Sultan Iskandar) will provide the following facilities :
> Light vehicle processing area
> Heavy vehicle processing area
> Motorcycle processing area
> Passenger hall for buses and coaches
> Quarantine area
> CIQ administrative and operation offices
The JB Sentral Terminal will provide the following facilities:
:: City railway :
> Entry / exit passenger hall
> Arrival / departure platforms
> Administrative offices
> Ticketing office
> Public multi-level car park
> Cafeteria and other amenities
:: Public transit :
> Local bus pick-up / drop-off platforms
> Local taxi stands
> Public multi-level car park
> Retail outlets
> Food court and other related amenities
INTERCHANGE NO.1 & INTERNAL ROADS
Bangunan Sultan Iskandar is linked to the existing Johor Bahru road network by means of new and upgraded roads and interchanges. GERBANG’s scope involves Interchange No.1 and internal roads only.
The project also consists of the construction of road and railway bridges to replace the Causeway. The removal of the Causeway will be followed by the dredging of a navigation channel to allow passage of vessels.
(Note: Due to bilateral issues with Singapore , the Government has decided in April 2006 not to proceed with implementation of these works)
ROAD & RAILWAY
BRIDGES (contract terminated in April 2006)
Water Mains, which were routed along Jalan Bukit Chagar, have been relocated to facilitate the construction of the CIQ Complex, while the Water Mains along Jalan Jim Quee have been relocated to facilitate the construction of JB Sentral and internal roads. In addition to the diversion of the major Water Mains, other SAJ Water Mains serving the surrounding areas have also been diverted and upgraded to serve the additional needs of the Integrated CIQ Complex and ancillary buildings.
